OT Week Challenge (UK) – #hellomynameis

If you hadn’t guessed by the banner, next week in the UK is Occupational Therapy Week. And I have a challenge for you all.

On Twitter I have recently started following @GrangerKate – Dr Kate Granger. Kate has a blog on her experience of being diagnosed with terminal cancer. On a blog post on 4th September Kate wrote about how something seemingly so small being forgotten impacted on her as a patient. Do read the post I’ve linked to and then pop back here.

Shocking, right? As Kate said this is so basic it appears many of us have forgotten it. So let’s make OT week the start of bringing this back to each of your interventions. Bravo if you already do it, keep going – but, if you’ve let it slip, then start again.

Now I’m not in clinical practice at the moment so instead, starting today I’m going to tweet this once a day for the whole of OT week.

#hellomynameis Kirsty Stanley and I’m an Occupational Therapist – Health & social care professionals share the power – share your name!

Who is with me? This is so important, I’d love to hear if you think making an effort to do this has impacted positively on your practice.

Please share your #hellomynameis comments on Kate’s blog, tweet me @kirstyes and @GrangerKate – share these posts, get colleagues involved and if you get the opportunity to follow up your introduction with a clear definition of what Occupational Therapy is do it and share those below.

Also CONGRATULATIONS to the BU OTs who are graduating on Wednesday and GOOD LUCK to the two year groups who start their placement on Monday – remember #hellomynameis.
