Happy World Book Day
So much for sending all the little kids to school dressed as characters from books – what about the adults?
I took myself into university today and lectured for an hour as a Hufflepuff, complete with robes, tie, wand, time-turner and deluminator. The topic – meaningful and purposeful occupation (looking at the history of OT with this slide).
Hoping to read a bit of Order of the Phoenix later – haven’t had chance yet this week.
So how have you celebrated World Book Day?
Got to Respect ‘Got to Dance’
I love Got to Dance and here is why.
The judges
Ashley, Kimberley, Aston and, when he was on it, Adam are all so enthusiastic about dance in its many forms.
And they are NICE. Take note judges on other competitions. Nice is ok. In fact nice is pretty bloody fantastic. Even when giving criticism they are constructive. At the moment Got to Dance is the only show where the judge’s comments are as important for me to watch as the acts. Many other shows I fast forward because they get too mean, to each other, let alone the contestants.
The chemistry between the judges is great, they respect each other as artists and even when they have spats it never seems to go too far and there is always a kiss and make up.
They have fun
Jumping over stacked armchairs in the backstage area!
The dancing
One mini regret I do have is giving up dancing, ok so I was never going to be a prima ballerina but it’s fun to move to music, or without. I love watching dancing, especially street dancing.
This show will probably be responsible for most of the pins I add to my Dances I Love Pinterest board. http://pinterest.com/kirstyes/dances-i-love/

I did ‘non graded’ ballet and tap when I was younger – here are some of my outfits/shoes. I ‘remember’ playing princesses (or Neverending Story Childhood Empresses) with the blue hair accessory.
Appreciation
I mentioned it above but it needs saying again. The judges are so passionate about dance and they respect each and every contestant for giving it a go. Never have I seen them say give up dancing, yes they’ve said it’s not right for this competition and the money but they still encourage people to participate and that (as an Occupational Therapist) is so important. Do we have to be the best to take part and enjoy. NO.
I love how Ashley bounces up and down and hand gestures when he sees something really sick – and stands up when it is amazing. I joined in clapping with them when the member of Groundhogs jumped up to the height of Ashley’s head – that dude is tall.
Ps. I may be slightly in lust with Ashley, wanted to apply to Secret Dance Crew and am going to see Diversity on tour later this year (I saw them on the BGT the year they won and they were stunning).
Love this dance of Kimberley’s too.
Even the fact that the Got to Dance twitter account has twice ignored my very intelligent question about the influence of music on a gold star decision and whether anyone has got 3 gold stars without using music to dance to can’t dissuade me from my love and respect for this show.
2013 Intentions
OK, so we are already a month and a half into 2013 and I have made a start on some of these already but illness has meant my energy has had to go mostly workwards. Please keep your fingers crossed that I can give up being sick for lent (and much more of the year).
• After the success of my daily challenges last year and thanks to a Christmas gift from my sister I have a daily challenge to complete my Kirigami (paper cutting and folding) calendar – I’ve been posting pictures of this on my tumblr blog along with others that I take (though those not on a daily basis – only when there’s something interesting).
• There is only one Kirigami for Sat/Sun so Sundays is typically gong to me a snapshot of the progress of my Happiness Jar (I’m writing happy memories on pieces of paper, popping them in the jar ready to read on New Year’s Eve).
• I am going to put my 366Photo and smallstone challenge in a Photobook – need to do this by the time my Groupon runs out in May.
• I realised how much I miss reading so I’ve upped my Goodreads challenge to 24 books (Thanks to sickness I’m already on 13 if you count the 2 betas I’ve read that Goodreads doesn’t, and I do! Lots of those are re-readings – Malory Towers and Harry Potter).
• The PhD ethics proposal has to come up high here – I’m currently feeling like I’m spinning in circles so I’m hoping to settle without vomiting soon ;o)
• To continue to work on my self esteem and not letting it be so dependent on others
• To leave 2013 weighing less than I did at the start. I’m really hoping that the 5:2 I’ve been doing since Oct 6th will help with this.
• To restart Pilates and try not to completely donate my money to the gym this year.
• To finish the rewrite/full first drafts of the first two books in my series (I NEED to do this this year).
• I will try to write at least 2 journal articles this year (take two).
• I will aim to use the April A-Z blogging challenge to progress with my PhD/my novels.
• If I have finished my drafts of books one and two I will aim to use November’s NaNoWriMo to write at least 25,000 words of book 3 (of 4).
• I will try and cross another 4 items off my Bucket List (two already planned are the Harry Potter Movie Marathon and LeakyCon London attendance).
I think that’s a more manageable list than last year so I think I’ll leave it there.
