Inflexible

I discovered my struggle

of battling against

a routine that’s not mine.

I lie gripping the covers to my chin
as the door rattles;
I swear all the windows are shut
but the wind invades.
I shiver
and think of those with no walls and doors
it’s their bones that rattle.

What a Dish

silver, sparkling sheen
outside and
inside items cleaned,
this machine
will save me time
will hide the dirty
until it is ready
to shine
